Mocktails and Colorways, Part 1
Summer is my favorite time of year. I love all the flowers blooming everywhere, the heat, wearing shorts and tank tops, and eating all of the in-season fruit! I could eat watermelon, berries, and stone fruit all day, every day of summer, and be a happy knitter. I think that's why so many of our colors make me feel so happy and full of sunshine. A lot of what we dye looks like summer to me!
Diana and I have been dyeing a lot lately and while I am twisting skeins I see fruit in my brain. In fact, it happens so often that I have started making drinks based on the colors of our yarn. This post is dedicated to the beautiful purples that appear in Empowerment Purple.
I've named the drink Empowerment Purple Summer Berry Spritzer and it can be a virgin or alcoholic drink. The taste is light and only slightly sweet and the best part is the ice won't water down your drink!
Empowerment Purple Summer Berry Spritzer
Ingredients
- 1 cup summer berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, mulberries, chokeberries . . . you get the point)
- 1 TB lemon juice
- 2 tsp honey or sugar
- 12 oz seltzer water or Rosé
Equipment
- blender
- ice cube tray (I got a popsicle-shaped mold from Target)
- glass
Instructions
- Blend the berries, lemon juice, and honey together.
- Strain the mixture. If you are not a fan of seeds, don't skip it!
- Pour the mixture into the ice cube tray
- Freeze for at least 4 hours
- Add a few berry cubes to a glass and pour seltzer or Rosé over the ice cubes and enjoy!
I have been making this drink since Sacramento turned up the heat! It's refreshing, simple, and delicious. The best part is you can make just one glass for yourself, or an entire pitcher for a party. If you make it with Rosé, it becomes a light sangria.
Try it out and let me know what you think.
